Hearing loss in America, in many cases, happens gradually over time. Often hearing loss happens so gradually that many people who are living with untreated hearing loss don’t know they are living with hearing loss. Hearing loss is unique for every person who experiences it. But no matter the severity or duration of hearing loss, there are signs.

We all know physical activity keeps your body healthy. So, it’s no surprise that physical activity and hearing health are related to each other as well. Your hearing health is related to many parts of your overall healthcare. As hearing loss professionals, we have come to realize that hearing loss is a major health issue, one that can lead to an array of various other health issues. And, in the new year, our media is overflowing with messages pushing us to get healthier and add exercise to our daily schedules.

All kinds of things today produce noises that impact our hearing health. Loud noises happen every day and many of us just don’t notice. From cars and highways to crowded streets and constant background noise, our hearing allows us to amerce in our environment. As functioning humans working the daily grind, of course there will be increased noises. We’ve accepted these sounds as part of our everyday living. We do live in the age of ever-changing technology after all, but how much is too much noise for our own hearing health?

Just like so many things in our society today, not everything is as it appears. Falling in line with this thinking, hearing loss too is not only about hearing. No, it’s not a riddle or a deep thought joke. The fact of the matter is, hearing loss impacts a person in more ways than you can imagine. Hearing loss is not only about turning up the volume on the TV, or asking people around you to repeat conversations. Today, hearing loss research is showing us that hearing loss is connected to our overall health and well-being in many ways you may not have considered.

Tinnitus can actually present itself as many different types of sounds (hissing, clicking, whistling, ringing or chirping) but all of them are equally annoying for most people who experience Tinnitus. Tinnitus is pretty common, affecting an estimated over 50 million Americans annually. Although Tinnitus is more of an annoyance than a medical emergency, it has been known to cause sleepless nights and a lack of concentration. What’s most important to know about experiencing Tinnitus, is that your body is trying to tell you something.
